Winter has come for good in Greece. It is snowing in the highlands and lowlands of Macedonia, Thessaly, Eastern Continental Greece and Peloponnese. It snowed in Arachova, Kalavrita, Naousa, Grevena, Katerini, Trikala, Volos, Tripoli, Trikala of Corinth and many areas in Athens. 10-50cm fresh snow at every ski center from yesterday's snowfalls and temperatures around -10oC.
Right now there are snowstorms at Parnassos, Karpenissi, Anilio and Falakro ski centers, which are in suspension of operation, as well as Kalavrita ski center, where only the lift Ermis is open.
Kaimaktsalan, Vasilitsa, 3-5 Pigadia, Pisoderi, Pertouli and Elatochori ski centers are open for skiing, while Mainalo and Lailias ski center are preparing the pistes to open tomorrow.
Vitsi ski center has operation suspension for today due to electricity problems, while it is expected to be open tomorrow for skiing.
Tonight, 3-5 Pigadia celebrates New Year's Eve with live jazz music and buffet at the hotel and a party at Wild Dog, fireworks and a torch race at the central piste.
Snow chains are needed to access all ski centers, except from Pisoderi. The roads from Zarouchla to Kalavrita sc, from Kerasia to Kaimaktsalan sc and from Vytina to Mainalo sc are closed. The road to Falakro sc closes immediately after the snowplow passes, while winds cause similar problems to the road to Karpenissi sc as well.
If you're travelling, prepare yourselves with proper clothing for cold and check the condition of your snowchains or snowtyres. It is also good to carry a strap or rope for towing, a pharmacy, tools, water and dry food and check that we have enough extra fuel in our vehicle. Look out for ice at sunless spots.
It is cheaper to go skiing than to go to the gym!!!
