Good weather at all ski resorts. The ski resorts of Pelion, Falakro, and Lailias are in operation.
The ski resorts of Pelion, Falakro, and Lailias have opened for skiing. The Kelaria area at Parnassos Ski Center is open. The Anchor lift at Kalavryta Ski Resort is also expected to operate today. The Pertouli Ski Resort remains closed for now.
5 to 15 cm of snow on Mount Parnitha. The road is closed.
Snow clearance is underway at the new Styga lift, where large amounts of snow are blocking the return of the chairs at the summit. The lift length is 1,415 meters, with six seats per chair and an ascent time of approximately 5 minutes, reaching a speed of up to 5 meters per second.
Snow is also present in semi-mountainous areas. Snow chains and/or snow tires are essential.
We ski with controlled speed and if we are above the slope, we avoid and give priority to those below us. If we want to stop, we choose to do it at the edges of the slope and not in the middle.
With the closure of the Kaimaktsalan Ski Resort on April 14, 2024, due to the mild weather, the previous season officially came to an end. It was possibly the worst season of the past 30 years, marked by limited snowfall and unusually high temperatures. A striking fact is that in April, the beaches were as crowded as if it were June.
2019-2020 season was one of the best within the last 10 years. Up to the end of February we had almost every week new snow falls at altitudes above 1000 meters. March entered with higher temperatures and sunny weather.
At about 7 am Saturday 12/1/2019, an avalanche completely put down Styga chair-lift pillar 5. Fortunately, no injuries were caused. The avalanche was triggered by skilled personnel in order to provide safety for the skiers in the adjacent area. However, the end result was a much bigger avalanche than the one expected, causing major damage to the main chair lift, as you can see in the photo.
