One snowboarder 31 years old dead due to avalanche at Vasilitsa Ski Resort
The fatal accident happened today 29th of December at an area off piste which is called K2 on the top of the mountain. The last two days fresh snow was added on top of a frozen snow layer, the fresh layer has slipped while a team of 5 snowboarders were descending the slope. Two of them got trapped in the avalanche, and one fell unconscious and was left covered for more than 15 minutes. His death was announced at the hospital of Grevena due to asphyxia. The ski resort was not in operation today due to the big amount of snow. It was expected to open the day after. This is the fist time ever of fatal accident of skier/snowboard due to avalanche in Greece.
